Baltazár Bar & Grill at Kempinski Hotel Bahia

The Baltazár Bar & Grill, located poolside in the Kempinski Hotel Bahia in Estepona, welcomes hotel guests, local residents and non-residents to enjoy their food, which includes fresh ingredients prepared in the open kitchen with love and passion. were pleased to accept an invitation to experience the grill.

The decor is retro, refined and rustic and the views are stunning. Can you use refined and rustic in the same sentence? Of course you can! Simple, sumptuous and very comfortable sums up the look, feel and atmosphere of this restaurant. Looking out over the beautiful pools and gardens to the sea beyond, it’s delightful in any weather. Attention to detail is evident in the design, which is based on the fictional persona of Baltazár – a world traveller. And  also a relaxed and inspiring character with a very unique style.

We were invited to sample a menu that had been specially produced for us to experience some of the grill’s favourites. The full menu offers a variety of starters and tapas that are ideal for sharing, salads, specialities from the Tandoori oven, burgers, meat and fish cooked to perfection from the Josper Grill and some national specialities.

Our first starter starter was Gazpacho with a tiny quail’s egg and serrano ham. It was delicious! This was followed by sea bass with delicate and fresh avocado, lime and spring onion. Then, grilled octopus with potato puree lightly sprinkled with smoked paprika. Next came a tiger prawn pil pil with a difference. The sauce was delicious. We all dipped our bread numerous times. A roasted squash salad came next – an Andalucian delight which did not disappoint. The goat’s cheese was the creamist we have ever tasted, lavishly topped with lentils, herbs and toasted seeds. As you can imagine, we almost forgot that we were still on the starters. The main courses were still to come.

The main courses started with aged rib eye with shallot and port butter. It just melted in the mouth. Then came buttermilk chicken cooked to perfection from the Tandoori oven served with homemade flat bread which just melted in the mouth and accompanied by a coriander and bean relish. Next came a Baltazár burger with aged cheddar, crispy pancetta and potato wedges This was a big hit with us all. The final main course was a seafood paella which, as you would expect, was marvellous.

The selection of desserts included lemon tart, crema catalana and chocolate cake, completing a very tasty menu. The service was both friendly and impeccable. We enjoyed all of the food and we will certainly be returning soon.
