An interview with Lucy Faye

Lucy Faye has an amazing voice! She is without doubt one of the best singers working on the Costa del Sol at the present time. We were therefore delighted when she agreed to be interviewed by

So Lucy, tell us about your background and how you came to be a singer?
“I am a classically trained vocalist who has studied since the age of 6! I have been privately tutored weekly since this age and I furthered my studies with music at college and later at University in London. There, I studied jazz and soul and performed in London based bands, writing, performing and recording my own music.”

Who are your musical influences and what kind of music do you like?
“I was actually first intrigued by West End performers at a young age. I also idolised big power pop vocalists such as Mariah Carey and Celine Dion and later, when I had more musical understanding, jazz greats like Etta James, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday became my idols. At home and when I watch live music I listen to and appreciate every single genre from house music to opera!

How long have you been in Marbella or on the Costa del Sol?
“I have lived here almost five years now. I first came over to visit my sister. I sang in a restaurant spontaneously and I was offered a job the very next day! It was never planned. I had a return ticket that I simply didn’t use!”

What sort of music do you like to perform?
“Most people are actually surprised by my repertoire. I literally sing everything and anything from the 1920s to the present day. I have lots of different resident gigs at many varied places that require different types of music. In one place, I might sing more jazz based music and in another I will sing a whole dance club set. I’m not even sure how many songs I know and sing, but I’m sure it’s around the 1,000 mark! I aim to learn at least five songs a week, old or new, to keep my sets fresh, up to date and interesting!”

Where do you normally perform and how often?
“I am currently a resident singer at Les Cubes, the Boardwalk and Bar Six in Marbella, Olivias in La Cala and the Playwright in Elviria. I sing at all of these venues once or twice weekly, I also duet with amazing musicians like Pablo on saxophone and Ruben Hernández on trumpet. I am also a wedding singer at some of the most beautiful venues in Nerja, Ronda and Mijas.”

Is there anything else you would like to mention?
“I am always being asked to be a part of the Boardwalk’s main events, which is really an honour. I sung at their first year anniversary party and I have been asked to sing at their forthcoming charity event on Friday 9th October – a ticketed event to raise money and awareness for the Last Chance Animal Rescue charity they work closely with. Details can be found on my music Facebook page/lucyfayemusic.

Thanks Lucy for the interview and good luck with your career!!!
