4 Beauty Products That Clog Your Drain and How to Avoid That?

The beauty market has been introducing mesmerizing products that are better for your skin and health, promote therapy and relaxation, and have a decently clean ingredient list with least to no chemicals. But what if I tell you that these products can still harm you?

Well, clogged drains are of no good, they can lead to diseases if left unattended and can cause severe problems for both you and your home. And there are some amazing beauty products that are responsible for contributing to clogging. Let’s see the list, shall we?

But before that, just to let you know that along with the list, we have also mentioned a few ways in which you can prevent clogging. These tricks will save you from plumbing issues and reduce the professional plumber’s visits at your place. However, I strongly believe addressing plumbing issues from time to time and getting your pipes checked and clean by a professional is extremely important as well.

Without further ado, let’s dive right into the list of products.

Bath Bombs and Salts

Bath Bombs and Salts

Trending in the market for all the good reasons, bath bombs have taken my heart quite literally. The way these bombs open up and fill the tub with aroma, salt, and petals. I can stay there for hours. But when it’s time to get out of the tub is when it hits, what about all these petals?

Have you experienced the water draining slowly when you have salt, bubbles, soap, or petals in it? Wish to know the reason why or have you already cracked it?

These bath bombs and salts can easily clog the drains, I am not even going to include petals because it is pretty obvious.

Anyhow, how can you prevent them from clogging your drains? Well, for starters, put your bath bomb in a bag, socks, or something so that it dissolves easily and the additives don’t get to make their way towards the drains. If not that, have a strainer handy so that you can collect these additives after your bath. You can even do it with your hands but that won’t be very effective.

Body Butter

I love how body butter moisturizes my body. It’s so dense and rich, massaging it into the skin is so therapeutic. But there are times when I don’t have enough time so I simply moisturize myself while I’m in the shower to save some time. Well, I recently found out that this way I am letting the body butter run down the drain and not only is it wasting my product it is even creating a sludge down the drain that can eventually clog the drains. I also found out that I am not alone. There are so many people who love moisturizing in the shower and even if it is not body butter, in shower moisturizers and moisturizing shower gels work the same way. So, you may be thinking you are not clogging your drains because you don’t use body butters but any oil based product can clog your drains like body butter.

What’s the solution? Avoid moisturizing in the shower. Refrain from using products that have heavy oils such as shea butter, cocoa butter and coconut oil. These oils can solidify at cold temperatures and clog your drain.

Hair Removal Products

Hair Removal Products

There has been a word in the market that the chemical used in hair removal products is the same as that used to unclog the drains. Well, this may be true, I am not going to reject the idea, but unfortunately, just because two products have the same chemical, they are not bound to work in the same manner. Hair removal products remove hair from our body and these hair mixed with the product have the potential to clog the drains. In fact, even if you shave your body and use shaving creams, there is a chance that you may experience a similar clog.

Does that mean waxing is the only option left for you? Of course not. Shave your body, remove those hair however you like, just do not let the products and your hair go down the drain. Invest in a drain catcher or collect everything with paper towels and throw them in the bin, however you like.

Exfoliating Products

We all love exfoliating products, don’t we? They clean our pores and leave us with soft, glowing skin. Moreover, these products are all natural, well at least I use organic, natural products. So, what can clog the drain now? All these little particles that exfoliate your skin. Usually, these products have ingredients that don’t dissolve, for obvious reasons. Like coffee ground, oatmeal, or seed powders. These may not go anywhere and affect your drains causing a plumbing issue.

So what am I supposed to do now? Stop exfoliating? No! Again, don’t let the product go down the drain. Make drain catchers an extremely important part of your routine or simply wipe your face after exfoliating with a damp towel or tissue. Not that I need to say this but don’t throw this tissue down the drain either.

It is better to prevent damage than getting it fixed later. However, it is not always possible to be 100% successful at preventing something. So, even if you tried your best, you may still experience plumbing issues for some totally different reasons than what I have mentioned here. Do not delay the fixing process as damaged pipes and leakage can lead to bigger issues in no time. Call an emergency plumber in Wolverhampton and get your drains and pipes fixed.
