Summer hair care tips

How to protect hair during summer

Holidays are all about the beach and the pool, but while your skin gets a tan, your hair loses nourishment. Hair during the summer season can turn dull and lack lustre. So, what can we do???

Regular shampooing is very important and you should use a high quality shampoo. Kerastase Bain Satin or a Bain Nutri-Thermique shampoo would be perfect for your hair. They are both intensive nutritional shampoos and they will give your hair the nourishment it sometimes lacks in the hot months.

Hair can get damaged in many ways during the summer, including over-exposure to the sun’s harmful rays, sweat, humidity and of course spending too much time in the swimming pool.

Chlorinated water can cause many problems, like your hair going green! But, never fear. The best thing to use for this is tomato ketchup. Yes, seriously! You can put it on dry or wet hair, massage it in and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Then rinse and you will find the green colour will be gone.

Can you prevent a bad hair day after the beach or pool? Of course you can!

With a little pre-emptive care, this is all your hair needs to stay beautiful. Be sure to prep your hair before going into the sea or the pool. Your hair is like a sponge. Dry hair will absorb the first liquid it comes into contact with. So, wet the hair with tap water before you take the plunge. It won’t then absorb so much sea salt or chlorinated water.

For extra summer protection, coat the hair with a leave-in conditioner. Then. reapply it to protect as the hair dries in the sun. Another option is to use a Kerastase mask intensive treatment masquintense. Or you could even use your sun tan lotion. When applying it to your body, just run some though your hair.

Enjoy the summer and look after your crowning glory.
