Salon Spain Supercar event at Ascari
Salon Spain’s Supercar event was held over the weekend of 28 – 29 May at the Ascari Racing Circuit near Ronda in Andalucia. MarbellaAzul.com was of course there to bring you all the details and images.
The Ascari circuit is located amongst mountains and woodland a few kilometres east of Ronda. It is the longest track in Spain and, unlike most circuits, it is completely devoid of advertising boards.
When we arrived, we headed straight for the coffee area and then off to see the amazing cars on display. These included (from Cohen & Cunild) the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Roadster (one of the most gorgeous supercars ever made). It may not be the rarest supercar on the road (only 2,000 were made), but it is certainly one of the most beautiful.
There was also a Ferrari 458 Spider F1 with stunning red interior, a Hummer H1 6.5 TDI V8, a grey Maserati Grancabrio Sport convertible with burgundy interior and the beautifully airbrushed classic 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS..
Grupo Guarnieri (Marbella) were showing the Pagani Huayra, a special breed of exotic supercar meant to compete with only the fastest exotics in the world. When the boot, hood and doors were open, it looked like one of those transformer toys.
Around midday, the Ascari race cars were wheeled out and the lucky purchasers of tickets got into the cars with an Ascari driver and set off to experience the speed of a race car. Some of the participants were in full racing gear, with others just wearing a crash helmet. The cars, one of which was a Radical SR3 with a maximum speed of 233 kilometres per hour, took to the circuit for two laps of the track. One lucky lady got out of the car claiming it was the best experience of her life.
It was a wonderful event and a very enjoyable day. Our thanks go to Salon Spain, Ascari and all the other contributors.
