Located just a few kilometres north of Sotogrande, Zoo de Castellar is a rescue centre for animals seized by the customs and the police. It aims to raise funds to care for the animals, whilst increasing awareness and educating visitors about the zoo’s residents.
It is a private initiative set up in 1998 to rescue animals seized by the authorities that have been involved in the black market.

Zoo de Castellar was officially opened in 2002 to provide these animals with better living conditions and it later opened to the public to increase awareness of this cruel business. Thanks to public support, the Zoo is constantly improving its facilities and visitors are now able to feed and interact with the animals. You may well find animals here that you have never seen before.

The Zoo also offers instructive talks for adults and children (the next generation), hoping that changes will be made to improve this situation.
