Paraguay Independence Day in Marbella 2016
The sun was shining here on Sunday as Marbella’s Paraguayan community gathered on the Paseo Maritimo in front of the tourist office to celebrate the 205th anniversary of Paraguay’s Independence. MarbellaAzul.com was of course there to experience the atmosphere and provide images for you to enjoy.
A large crowd gathered at midday to hear the opening speeches from representatives of the Hispano-Guarani Asociación. These were followed by the national anthem and a brief history of Paraguay by Pedro Emilio Zulín Rojas – Cónsulate General of the Republic of Paraguay in Málaga Miguel Luna,. Marbella’s minister of tourism then provided some words of welcome.
Paraguyan singer Silvia Vargas then took to the stage to sing for us, enthralling the crowd with her amazing voice and receiving raptuous applause. This was followed by the renowned harpist Celso Bogado.
We then enjoyed more wonderful music from Ruben Baamez, Victor Valdez and the Folklore Ecuadorian dancers. Alma Guarani’s bottle dance was particularly interesting.
Everyone had a great time and singing and dancing continued late into the evening.
Thanks to the asociación for bringing this great celebration to Marbella.
