Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo (the Spanish contemporary engraving museum) is located in Marbella´s Casco Antiguo (Old Town) close to the Roman walls and the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación.

The museum is housed in the 16th Century Hospital Bazan which has been declared a building of protected cultural interest. It is in the Renaissance style with a Gothic-Mudéjar stamp and it is set around two courtyards. The first faces the main door, with a gallery of semicircular arches on columns decorated with Segovia type spheres. The other is on a higher level.

There are three interesting mudéjar collar roof beams with a simple decoration of ornamental bows on the beams. The museum is the only one of its kind in Spain dedicated to the preservation, promotion and exhibition of 20th and 21st century engravings and Spanish graphic artwork.

The collection showcases the best of contemporary Spanish art and includes etchings, aquatints, lithographs and xylographs. There is an important collection of more than four thousand works by different artists, including Goya, Fortuny, Baroja, Picasso, Miró, Dali, Chillida, Saura, Tápies, Barceló and Plensa.

There are courses on engraving, conferences on art, concerts and drawing competitions. The museum also organizes the annual National Engraving Awards. If you´re in Marbella and you are interested in art, a visit here is a must.
