Mel Williams is a professional entertainer who has been working on the Costa del Sol for over 40 years. Mel arrived in Spain in 1974 to become Entertainments Manager for Holiday Club International. He continued working, preparing shows and performing for eight years before arriving in Puerto Banús where he worked the clubs and started to build a reputation.
In 1984, he opened his own beach bar (aptly named “Mel’s”) in San Pedro de Alcántara and then the legendary “Banana Beach”. He performed regularly at both places, along with countless other well known acts. But there is much, much more to this “Camberwell cockney crooner”!
At the tender age of 14, he had his own skiffle group with his brother Ron and they took rock ‘n’ roll to the Middle East in the early 1960s. They performed with most of the 1960s legends, including opening for the Rolling Stones in Paris. They also had a two year run at the famous “Crazy Horse Saloon”. Then there was a number 1 hit record and his own TV show.
Could there possibly be more? Well, how about this. Mel was commissioned by Hanna Barbera to write a musical which toured the UK and he was part of a comedy act that toured the USA. He then wrote two more musicals for children,
Mel has never stopped singing.
He speaks fluent Spanish and French, as well as passable German, Dutch and Italian. He has never stopped working and is still doing gigs on the Costa del Sol today, delighting audiences. He is a true Marbelli and he is loved by those who know him well.
