Marbella Half Marathon 2017
Marbella’s Media Maratón (half marathon) 2017 was held this year on Sunday 24 September. The weather was perfect for this annual event and almost 1,600 runners arrived early on Sunday morning to take part. The start and finish were in the Avenida Ramón y Cajal, right next to the Parque de la Alameda in central Marbella.
Before the race started, Marbella’s new mayor Angeles Muñoz presented a plaque to Javier Martin, the head of the Local Police, to commemorate their 150th anniversary.
Competitors this year were from Marbella, Málaga, other Andalucian regions, Spain and Europe. The runners set off along the Avenida Ricardo Soriano towards Marbella’s Golden Mile, back to the old town and then along the Paseo Maritimo to Puerto Banús, before returning to Marbella’s town centre and the finish line.
This year’s winner was Mario Garcia and the first woman to cross the finish line was Jessica Petterson.
Javier Mérida, the Councilor for Sport, praised the organizers, saying “they have done an exceptional job.”
Marbella Half Marathon 2015
The annual Marbella Half Marathon was held this year on Sunday 27 September. It was a beautiful sunny day in Marbella – not too hot, but ideal for running a half marathon. The competitors arrived at the Palacio de Congresos just before 10.00, picked up their numbers and headed for the start line.
This year, the organizers achieved their registration limit of 2,500 runners two weeks before the day of the race. Runners from Marbella, Andalucia, many other regions of Spain and other European countries took part. The event began in Calle Jacinto Benavente. The competitors headed towards the Old Town, then down to the Paseo Maritimo and onto Puerto Banús. They then returned to Marbella, finishing on the terraces above the Puerto Deportivo.
The winner was Mario Garcia from Atletismo Málaga in a time of about 1 hour and 9 minutes. Rafa Bermúdez from Equipo Trotamundos finished second and Christian Benítez from Club Atletismo Málaga finished third.
