Important changes to beaches – dog areas, reading and lifeguards
Location: Marbella Beach News.
The councillor for sustainability (el concejal de sostenibilidad) Miguel Diaz and the mayor and municipal spokesman Javier Porcuna informed us this week that they will be adding reading/library areas, assisted bathing areas for the disabled, lifeguards and the first dog friendly beach available throughout the summer.
The town hall (ayuntamiento) will also be encouraging the building of waterways for motor boats and other sports that are becoming popular in the municipality. In San Pedro de Alcántara, there will also be an area for a sailing school and nautical sports.
The coastline will also have an additional 155 umbrellas and hammocks, 4 play areas, 22 nautical areas, 35 massage areas and 36 diving areas. The beaches of San Pedro de Alcántara will also be reinforced with shaded areas, enabling the elderly to better cope with the heat.
The government team says this new beach plan will be effective from March 15 until October 15 in 2017.
These will be located on the San Pedro de Alcántara beach and on the Bajadilla beach. The service provides the loan of books for users of these beaches and areas for animation and culture. An area of about one hundred square meters has been reserved for this purpose. The design of the service and modules will be decided in the coming weeks. Part of the space will be indoors and part outdoors.
Assisted bathing areas and lifeguards
There will be new adapted bathing points in addition to the one already available on the La Venus beach in the centre of Marbella – one on the Nueva Andalucia coastline and one on the beach at La Bajadilla.
There will also be first aid services from the weekend before Easter until the end of September. Between Easter and the end of May, lifeguards will provide service on weekends. From June to September, this will be available every day. The service will include 42 lifeguards, 18 surveillance chairs, 15 first aid stations and 4 ambulances.
Dog friendly beaches
There will be two “canine beaches” (areas for the recreation of pets) covering 500 linear meters of surface. One of the enclosures will be on the El Pinillo beach and the other at Nueva Andalucía Ventura del Mar.
